A staging website is a separate copy of a live site used to test changes before visitors see them. It is useful for application updates, themes, plugins, custom code, and troubleshooting.
Use separate credentials and prevent staging from sending real customer messages or processing live transactions. Restrict access if it contains private data and prevent search engines from indexing it.
Test forms, logins, navigation, checkout, scheduled tasks, and mobile layouts. Review logs after testing.
A deployment may involve files, database records, or both. Do not blindly replace production data with a staging database. Back up production and maintain a rollback plan.
